Hercule, the great hero of Greek mythology, was forced to serve Eurystheus and complete twelve impossible tasks as punishment for killing his own wife and children while under a spell cast by Hera. Despite completing all the tasks, Eurystheus refused to acknowledge two of them, claiming Heracles did not complete the task of cleaning the Augean stables because he demanded payment, and that he did not defeat the Hydra alone. These tasks, known as the Twelve Labors of Hercules, are often referred to as the Ten Labors due to Eurystheus' refusal to accept the last two.
